Scammers operating a fake website impersonating Airbnb have targeted visitors to Edinburgh in an effort to con them out of thousands of pounds.
Tee elaborate ruse attempts to trick unsuspecting renters into handling over personal information through 'AIrBnB' - a copycat of the short term letting provider which does not exist.
Capital flats offering "unprecedented views of Edinburgh Castle" listed on Facebook's Marketplace feature, some of which actually contain images of apartments in Belfast, have been made available for rent under fake profiles.
Scam artists then engage with prospective renters and ask them to pay sums of up to £3,000 as a deposit to secure the property before absconding with the money.
